Thomas Combe of the Oxford University Press was a crucial early patron, and he also oversaw the publication of Alice in Wonderland, whose author befriended and photographed the artists, their supporters, and their families – one of many Oxford interconnections.\nMark Davies is an Oxford local historian, guide, and author; a trustee of the Lewis Carroll Society;  and a member of the Society of Authors. His relevant books include Alice in Waterland and Alice’s Oxford on Foot.\n
