Festival Fake or Fortune in collaboration with the Ashmolean Museum

The Ashmolean Museum has had to postpone this event – a new date will be announced when known

As the display in Gallery 4 at the Ashmolean Museum shows, it is not always easy to tell if something is the genuine artefact. Talented artists and artisans have often worked to re-create original artworks or objects, but not all have been unlawful or unofficial.

Join artist James Gemmill to discover how he is invited to recreate priceless artworks through his work as a scenic artist on films, including The Last Vermeer.

In this session James will explain the creative process through live demonstration. There will be the opportunity to explore the idea of forgery in relationship to the museum, as well as to cast your vote in the ballot box for the painting that you think is real.
