Sir James MacMillan in conversation with Suzi Digby
Acclaimed composer Sir James MacMillan will be in conversation with Artistic Director and Founder of ORA Singers, Suzi Digby OBE. James MacMillan is the pre-eminent Scottish composer of his generation. He first attracted attention with the acclaimed BBC Proms premiere of The Confession of Isobel Gowdie (1990). His percussion concerto Veni, Veni Emmanuel (1992) has received close to 500 performances worldwide by orchestras including London Symphony Orchestra, New York and Los Angeles Philharmonics and Cleveland Orchestra. Suzi Digby OBE is an internationally renowned Choral Conductor and Music Educator and she has trail-blazed the revival of singing in UK schools and the community.
They will discuss James’ composition of Vidi aquam and he will explore the process of writing a reflection on Tallis’ seminal work and what it is like to consider forty voices, singing individual parts. They will delve into how forty singers perform collectively and the experience the audience can expect from this unique and spell-binding concert.
