LOUIS AND FRIENDS: MICHAEL VAREKAMP AND THE RONNIE SCOTT’S ALL STARS
In a one-off performance for Oxford Festival of the Arts, the All Stars are joined by Michael Varekamp, whose Louis Armstrong-tinged vocals and hot swinging trumpet have made him a jazz sensation on both sides of the Atlantic. Michael’s deep understanding of the history and traditions of jazz have made him stand out as a leading ambassador for the music over the last twenty years, and in his native home of the Netherlands he is a noted radio presenter and bandleader.
Accompanying Michael as he takes us on our journey through the many eras of jazz are the Ronnie Scott’s All Stars who will bring their Soho based magic to the proceedings. Tonight we have Peter Long on reeds, who is also the director of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, and three of the most sought after rhythm section players in the UK. Anyone who knows the UK jazz scene will have heard of Rob Barron on piano, Sam Burgess on bass and Sebastiaan de Krom on drums, and they will therefore know that they will be buying a ticket to the grooviest show this side of New York! See you there!
