Jazz Fundamentals with NYJO’s Vij Prakash
In this workshop, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra’s Associate Educator Vij Prakash explores the fundamentals of jazz, including groove, playing by ear and improvisation.
Each session will focus on the fundamentals of jazz playing using Tito Puente’s ‘Oye Como Va’. This composition remains a totem of Latin Jazz and is widely regarded as one of the most important American musical works of the 20th century.
This session is for all instrumentalists under 16 years old.
There is a second session for those between 16 – 25 years old, click for details here
This session will cater for mixed abilities and gives young musicians the tools they need to utilise the NYJO Virtual Academy – a collection of resources designed to help learners practice, perform, and improve during lockdown.
