Piotr Gargas is a stone carver and sculptor. Piotr trained in stone sculpture for 5 years in Poland including the tradition of studying and copying the work of the great classical sculptors. On completion of his studies, he was invited to join a company focussed on the restoration of decorative stone features like statues and gargoyles, on historic buildings.
He was invited to Oxford to continue this work on colleges and churches and fell in love with the City and has been here ever since.
He started to develop his own art and now spends his time between the restoration work and his own artwork. Watch the fascinating process from splitting a huge block of stone to carving and shaping it with traditional tools.
Enjoy the film.
