Artists in Wonderland: Pre-Raphaelite Adventures in Oxford
A visual treat of a talk about the Pre-Raphaelites, and the various Oxford people and locations (including Botley) that inspired these young, aspiring artists as they struggled for acceptance. Thomas Combe of the Oxford University Press was a crucial early patron, and he also oversaw the publication of Alice in Wonderland, whose author befriended and photographed the artists, their supporters, and their families – one of many Oxford interconnections.
Mark Davies is an Oxford local historian, guide, and author; a trustee of the Lewis Carroll Society; and a member of the Society of Authors. His relevant books include Alice in Waterland and Alice’s Oxford on Foot.
