Creative Industries discussion attracts large online audience

On March 11, together with Magdalen College School we hosted ‘How Resilient is the Creative Industry?’ to explore the future for the arts and culture. MCS alumnus Jim Hawker assembled a stellar panel of artists and experts who didn’t pull their punches in exploring the post-pandemic and post-Brexit landscape for the creative industries.

Our expert panel were: Dame Harriet Walter actress, John Caird  writer and stage director, Stephen Boxer actor, Tom Piper artist and theatre designer, John La Bouchardière opera, film, and tv director and Juliette Fritsch museum and cultural heritage professional.

In a lively and robust hour of discussion, watched by hundreds, our guests tackled subjects as diverse as what the arts sector would look like by the end of 2021, whether the Government is doing enough to support the sector, the impact on young talent, and whether streaming services like Netflix and Amazon are supporting the industry.

To quote John Caird “My hunch is to be optimistic, I’ve always believed the arts are a necessity not a luxury.” And so say all of us!
